Malta has become a staple destination for travellers all over, especially those seeking sun-filled beach days in summer. Yet the smaller greener sister island of Gozo is still relatively underrated for the most part.

Since our secluded getaway at Ogygia Suites is located within the Gozitan village of Għarb, we wanted to summarise the ultimate itinerary guide to this true Mediterranean diamond, even if you are here for only a very short while.

Explore Għajnsielem as soon as you arrive in Gozo

Merely minutes away from the Mġarr harbour where the Gozo ferry docks, you are guaranteed to find charming seaside bliss in Għajnsielem. Definitely worth visiting are the main church in the town square, the almost 400-year old watch tower and of course the countless restaurants serving delicious local cuisine.

Visit Xlendi or Marsalforn for the full coastal experience

In these two locations, you can enjoy the typical summer’s day so many people crave when visiting an island like Gozo; the bays dominated by clear blue water, the wide array of establishments with refreshing cocktails and ice-cream, and a slow-paced atmosphere far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The iconic Ċittadella, Ġgantija and Ta’ Pinu for the history buffs

All three of these destinations are a must in our opinion, even if you are not a history buff. Ċittadella is a UNESCO world heritage site and the former capital city of Gozo, now a beautifully preserved Medieval fortress which is perfect to take in during a relaxing evening stroll once the sun starts to set.

Same as the several megalithic temples across Malta, the most mindblowing one you can visit while in Gozo is called Ġgantija. And finally, closest to our own Ogygia Suites, is the gorgeously decorated Ta’ Pinu Basilica, also known as the church of miracles.

Beach hopping between our five favourite spots

  1. Ramla Bay (Nadur) - widely considered to be Gozo’s most popular beach thanks to its signature golden sand
  2. San Blas Bay (Nadur) - one of the smaller and more secluded options, even though it can be a bit tough to get to
  3. Pomegranate Bay (Qala) - known as Ħondoq ir-Rummien in Maltese, it is very easy to access and offers both sandy and rocky areas
  4. Qbajjar Bay (Marsalforn) - uniquely characterised by salt pans and the surrounding coastal fortifications
  5. Għasri Valley (Għasri) - arguably Gozo’s most stunning beach spot because of its unique S-shape in the midst of very high limestone cliffs on either side

Fall in love with Għarb if you are checking into Ogygia Suites

We are located at the very edge of Għarb, with the main square and church less than a 10 minute walk away from Ogygia Suites. You will never find crowds or noise here, just quaint rural life where you can truly enjoy and experience what it means to be in the Mediterranean. You can also find plenty of high quality options for lunch, dinner or even just drinks within the square itself.
